About Gather
Why our church is building its own app
What we miss in Telegram, what Gather can do today and how the move should go.
Why our own app?
Telegram has connected us for years. It is fast, almost everyone knows it, and it works in every country. But Telegram is an open network. That brings risks we cannot solve there as a church.
The most important reason is protecting our children and young people.
What Gather can do
If you know Telegram, you will feel at home straight away.
Like Telegram
- Chats, groups and channels
- Voice and video messages
- Calls, including video and group calls
- On phone and computer
- Search, polls, reactions
- Fast, even on a weak connection
Only in Gather
- Safeguarding rules for children and young people
- Translation into your own language
- Connect the church's Telegram groups
- Calendar, sign-ups with a waiting list and livestream soon
What it looks like
The best way is to try it yourself. Gather runs right in the browser, nothing to install.
The way there
Step by step, so everyone can come along at their own pace.
-
Done
Build
The app for phone, browser and computer is ready.
-
Now
Test
The first people use Gather every day. A bridge keeps everyone connected with Telegram.
-
Next
Launch for everyone
Gather comes to the app stores and the computer, for the whole church.
-
Finally
Move over completely
Once most people have moved, we say goodbye to Telegram.
After that
Next we are building a calendar for the church's events, sign-ups with places and a waiting list, and livestreams of services. End-to-end encrypted chats between two people come too, later also for private groups, and the iPhone app in the App Store.
